Getting Started

From your first seed to your first bowl of soup.

Simmerfield adds six new crops to Minecraft and a kitchen to cook them in. You grow the crops, cut them, mix them and cook them into dishes. Every dish fills you up, and most of them also give you a helpful effect.

When you join a world for the first time you get a Kitchen Guide and a Recipe Poster. The guide is a book with every recipe and step; if you lose it, craft a new one from a book and a carrot. Hang the poster on a wall: its first page shows the whole journey below. Sneak and use the poster to flip to the recipes you have unlocked.

Your first seeds

Break grass and you will sometimes find a new seed. Which seeds you find depends on where you are: tomatoes like plains, chili peppers like the jungle. Every seed can turn up anywhere, just less often. See Crops for the full list.

Your first dish

Tomato Soup is the easiest dish to start with. You need two tomatoes and a bowl:

  1. Craft them into a Tomato Soup Mix on the crafting table.
  2. Craft a Cooking Pot and put it on top of a campfire.
  3. Use the pot with the mix in your hand to put it in, then use it with an empty hand to start cooking. Wait a few seconds and use it with an empty hand again to take your soup out.

Unlocking recipes

You don't have to remember any of this. Each time you find a new crop, the recipes that use it unlock: they appear on your Recipe Poster and in the crafting table's recipe book. In Creative mode everything is unlocked from the start.
